Discover the Different Parts of Medicare and What They Cover
Part A – Hospital Insurance
Helps cover inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care. It’s generally premium-free if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes while working.
Part B – Medical Insurance
Covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. Part B typically requires a monthly premium.
Part C – Medicare Advantage Plans
An all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurance companies. These plans often include Part A, Part B, and sometimes Part D, along with additional benefits.
Part D – Prescription Drug Plans
Provides coverage for prescription medications. Offered by private insurance companies, Part D helps lower the cost of most prescription drugs and may protect against higher costs in the future.
Medigap – Medicare Supplement Insurance
A supplemental policy sold by private companies to help pay out-of-pocket costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles.
